FN America has introduced the new FN 309 MRD 9mm pistol as a more affordable, consumer-focused option designed for reliable everyday personal defense. This optics-ready, internal hammer-fired handgun is part of a strategic move to make the FN brand more accessible to a wider market of gun buyers.

The FN 309 MRD is an internal hammer-fired, single-action-only pistol with several design choices aimed at ease of use for new or general consumers. It is being showcased at the 2026 NSSF SHOT Show. 

• Operation: Internal hammer-fired, Single-Action Only (SAO).
• Ease of Use: Features 25% less slide racking force compared to the FN 509 Tactical and 40% lower magazine spring force for easier loading.
• Optics-Ready: The slide is direct-mount optics-ready, compatible with red dot optics that share the Shield RMSc and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprints.
• Sights: Drift-adjustable polymer sights with an over-molded green fiber-optic front and U-notch rear.
• Barrel: A 3.8-inch alloy steel barrel with a recessed target crown.
• Safety: Multiple internal safeties, including a firing pin block, trigger safety, and a no-trigger-pull takedown mechanism. A manual safety version will also be available.
